Coach Nathan Oshidari started playing basketball at 8 years old in his home town of San Jose, California. He played varsity basketball for two years at Lynbrook High School then continued to play recreationally throughout his four years at UCLA and well into his early 40s.
He started coaching middle school and high school boys for the Tiger’s Youth Club in the mid 90’s. Between the early 2000’s and becoming a girl dad in 2008, Nathan invested a considerable amount of time and energy studying as well as teaching traditional Japanese martial arts (3 Dan in Daito Ryu Aiki Jujitsu & 12 years of Ono Ha Otto Ryu Kenjutsu) which he still continues to practice 25 years later.
Nathan started coaching 5 and 6 year old girls once his own daughters reached that age starting in 2014, and have grown along with both of those teams over the last 10 years. The martial arts background definitely influences coach Nate’s coaching philosophy and methodologies. (As does being a girl dad).
